AFTER the popularity of Weymouth & Portland Housing's (WPH) sailing tasters for young people, adult tenants were invited to have a go.
Tony Wood, Royal Yachting Association OnBoard Officer and Community Sail Coach, led the session and took a number of tenants out on small Laser Bahia dinghies.
Mr Wood said: "Everybody thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to get out on the water, with two of the participants now planning on signing up for further sailing classes."
Emily Watson, one of the participants, was delighted with the event and said she hoped it would be repeated.
She said, "I had a great time and would love to bring my children and be able to do it as a family."
Kristina Froshaug, tenant representative for Tophill, Portland, said "I really, really, enjoyed it and will look into doing this again."
The would-be sailors learnt the basics of steering and making the boat change directions, called 'tacking'.
Two other participants, Gail Hicks and Debbie Prior, are now looking at booking themselves and family onto the Tuesday evening sail sessions run at Sail Laser by Tony Wood.
These sessions are open to young sailors and adults, and cost £20 for four sessions for young sailors and £40 for four sessions for adult sailors.
Kevin Dey, managing director at WPH said: "It was great to see the adults having some fun, just as much as the young people involved in our sailing project that we run."
He added: "It is great to know that some now plan to take it up regularly from now on.
"This has got to be good for sailing in the area, along with the health and wellbeing of individuals.
"Credit to all of those who had a go and experienced something different especially those who did it for the first time."

I have two kids plus their friends to look after this summer holiday and because we are not rich we are excluded from all sailing activities. 'Rich parents kids only' should be posted on the Saillaser web site! You'll find us on Weymouth beach in late August agape at the cost of a two day sailing course - £165 each - that's £660! More ice cream kids? ooh look! Punch and Judy starts soon!
