Boost for White in his sponsor search
GLOBAL BID: Steve White in the cabin on the Spirit of Weymouth
GLOBAL BID: Steve White in the cabin on the Spirit of Weymouth

YACHTSMAN Steve White, who formally announced his intention to enter the prestigious Vendée Globe race today at the Southampton Boat Show, is getting new help in his search for a big-time sponsor.

The 28-year-old from Charlton Down, Dorchester, plans to sail his Spirit of Weymouth yacht around the world for 27,000 miles non-stop in the solo offshore race made famous by Dame Ellen MacArthur.

Preparations and training are already well underway, the first hurdle for White being the preliminary qualifying event later this year.

In his search for financial backers, White has now linked up with sports agency Fuse SPORT.

The agency represents an array of top sports stars including boxer Ricky Hatton and a host of Premier League footballers and will be working with the yachtsman to in order to maximise his sponsorship potential ahead of the Vendée Globe.

Father-of-four White has previously spoken candidly about having to re-mortgage his house and take out bank loans to fund his yachting and is naturally delighted about this new association.

He said: "If I'm going to realise my dreams in the Vendée Globe I'll need to attract some serious sponsorship and I'm really pleased that Fuse SPORT have come aboard to help me do just that.

"They've got unrivalled experience and expertise when it comes to sports marketing, promotion and communication and I'm really looking forward to working closely with them in order to achieve my goals."

Fuse SPORT consultancy director James Mann said: "We're really excited about our new partnership with Steve. He's one of the best yachtsmen in the country and has got the most amazing talent, ambition and potential.

"Competing in the Vendée Globe would be wonderful for his prestige and profile and we're working hard at Fuse SPORT to promote him to a variety of potential sponsors."
